Backlit Daylily

Gallery: FloraPosted August 31, 201037 views7 comments
Just joined and I am trying out posting.
Photo taken at Olbrich Botanical Gardens in Madison Wisconsin just about sunset while mosquitoes were snacking intently on both my camera (Olympus E-3) and me.

As I was leaving the park, I noticed the last sun rays lighting this day lily and stopped to take it. Used 50 mm lens and 2 x teleconverter.

Also, as a side note, just signed up for Mike Moats macro class. Very happy for the opportunity!

Hi Bo
Welcome to NPN!
Well seen and composed. Like the backlighting making the petals translucent and relatively clean bg. The image overall looks a bit soft though. Would be nice to have the technicals posted as well. Also there is no fast rule about where to post this image but you will probably get more comments in flora gallery with this.

Welcome to the gallery Bo and to NPN. I love the backlight in this and your point of view. The bg works very well to to support the subject. I agree with Gary that this looks a little soft but I don't have any problem with that in this case. Beautiful work. I'm looking forward to seeing many more.

Bo, Welcome to the Forum and pleased to meet another photographer from Wisconsin . I am a regular at Boerner so it might be possible that we have crossed paths without knowing each other  .

Excellent photo of the Daylily here - love seeing those veins against the good backlighting :toast:

Bo: Welcome to the finest Flora gallery on the planet and thanks for a fine first post here. I like your POV and the lighting. I also like peeking through the petals to get a glimpse of the anthers. I think I would clone away the pistil. I shoot a lot of day lilies and always find it annoying to deal with. Great to have you aboard and looking forward to more. >=))>
