GREAT EGRET

by Ronnie Gaubert

Gallery: AvianPosted September 2, 2010463 views16 comments
From truck window with bean bag.
Additional Info: This was shot with the sun at the horizon and to my back. The sun was mostly above the egret and striking the bare trees behind the egret. That explains the redish reflections in the water. The egret was picking up a faint redish glow from the rising sun. This was taken during late winter Feb. 23.

The white bird against the orange reflections in the water is quite a statement. You appear to be shooting into the setting sun, yet very nice illumination on the Egret. Great work, not much more I can add! :toast: :toast:

The only thing that would make this better would be if the bird were looking in your direction. The light is awesome and the pose graceful. A splendig image Ronnie.

Nice shot Ronnie. Great sharpness on the bird and I like the BG. This is outstanding for only 1/250s. I don't think I have ever gotten a sharp BIF shot with anything less than 1/640s. Maybe even 1/800s.

I'm with Ron. Good shooting at 1/250 sec.
LIke the comp and the bg really sets this off.

The egret is very nice, with perfect exposure and excellent sharpness. I have mixed feelings about the background: interesting colors but the stripe effect is somewhat distracting and isn't ideal for the beak.

Wonderful detail on the egret and at 1/250 that is amazing. I keep on going back and forth on the background but I understand why from your description however it does make for an interesting image to me with all those colors in the background. Great job in getting this, way to go.

Gorgeous. Love the nice warm hues and the flight action! I wish the head turn was a bit better and I agree with Rich D. about the background.
Those nits aside, overall this is just beautiful! :toast: :toast:

Excelllent sharpness at that low shutter speed Ronnie, I find the bg both interesting and somewhat distracting. :toast:

It's already been covered extensively Ronnie but I'm really amazed at the sharpness at 1/250. For me the background stripes aren't ideal and I thought the orange bill against the similar background color was an issue too. Changed my mind about that though, as soon as I saw the larger image. Very nice framing, esp with the legs at that angle.

it's a nice picture of a great egret in flight, but the most notable is the striped copper background

Hi Ronnie,

Beautiful photograph overall. I think the BG adds to the photograph while also pulling attention away from the bird.

Ronnie,
Very nice whites. Great detail in BOTH the whites and the black legs. Love the reddish colors on the underside of the wing. Excellent composition. The vertical bright streak just behind the bird is slightly distracting but an otherwise fantastic capture Ronnie.

Ronnie,

The background IS different, but I don't mean that in a negative way at all. I feel that it adds interest and because it does it does grab my attention, but it doesn't pull me away from the egret for long. Love the flight pose, the way you handled the exposure and that this image shows the greenish lores.
