Ecuador, June 2010
"Black and White" owls are about 14 inches tall, and are fairly common in the forest canopy below 5200 feet.
This fellow liked to hang around our lodge, near a large light, for wamth and the bugs attracted by the light.

Excellent pose Sandy and nice habitat. I'd love to see the pupil retouched so the red eye does not show. Very well done.

Pretty cool looking bird. The shadow caused by the flash is distracting for me. Overall, the flash seems to be a bit strong. Still wish I had one of these in my collection though.

Another new one for me. Wild owls are always a treat, and to find one in the rainforest is extra special IMO. I really like the view of the plumage and facial patterns.

Don't you love it when the birds cooperate!
Nice composition and details. The colors look great.
The shadow and "Steel eye" are a bit distracting but nice job none the less.

I suspect your bird was also attracted to the bugs the light attracted, and the critters that feed on those bugs. Nice job with the flash. I agree with Akos about fixing the red-eye.

Nicely done Sandy, I'd try to remove any red eye as well. Jim is correct regarding why there are near the lights, because that's where their prey is. :toast:

Greetings, Sandy. A very interesting owl. I'm not put off by the flash shadow. It's a night image fore goodness sakes. But, I would take a little time to correct for the red eye. All the barring on the underside is quite striking.

Great pose and details, it's a beautiful owl that I'd love to see, as others have said the shadow and red eye are a bit distracting but the over all image is great

Sandy, you have been posting quite a few interesting species, this one included. I'd work on the red eyes.

Love the pose.

Well composed frame, good use of flash with the low light conditions. Not much you can do about the flash shadow, it's just par for the course
I like it :toast:

I've been away for a few days, glad I looked a little deeper in the forum than usual. You did very well this fellow Sandy, excellent work getting rid of the red-eye.
