I had a series of this bird and liked this one for the singing pose and clarity. It had been a really sunny day to start out, but then a few clouds came by and I liked not having the bright sun to deal with the yellows. Made the exposure much easier.

The singing pose and bg are first rate Bryan. The detail in the head area looks pretty good too, it seems like the feather detail isn't quite as good in the rest of the bird, could be the crop if it's cropped much. :toast:

Nice image Bryan. Love the perch, the pose, mouth open singing to the world. Wish it was slightly sharper. Background is beautiful. I wonder if the comp could be improved by cropping some off the bottom and adding canvas to the top. That is the direction he is looking and there is not much up there. Just a thought. Terrific Capture Bryan!

Gorgeous image, Brian. The eye is wonderfullysharp and the pose and complementary colors are terrific. Goes to show that those high overcast skis can deliver some superb lighting. I have yet to capture one of these guys away from the dense underbrush that they hang out in but images like this give me hope. :toast: :toast:

Excellent singing pose captured in beautiful light. The colors are real good with a interesting composition.
The feather detail seems a bit soft and blurred, did you use luminance noise reduction?

Nice balanced colors and clean background. The high iso may affect your feather detail in the belly.
But I like it anyway...

After I read Nate's comments and then Joel's I went back to Lightroom and looked at what I did. I basically made a mistake and applied the lightroom NR on the whole image which messed up the feathers on the body. So, I re-processed the image from the beginning, took the crop suggestion with more room up top and did not apply NR to the bird, so close up on the underside there is noise present, but detail (that's the trade off). I added a generous amount of sharpening for web posting and I am surprised how bad it looks on my screen, but actually pretty good once it's posted. I usually don't have to add that much more, but this one is weird. Thanks for the suggestions!

Way to go on the repost. Much, much better. Everybody needs to be carefull with the NR. It is nice for helping out BG a bit, but man, it will just ruin a bird. Love the comp and singing pose.

Awesome pose and I like the perch. The repost is terrific with the improved techs, although the image itself flew for me as it was.
