Well, you can hope for high drama, or something more "sublime", and this definately is. I love the colors in the sky, and the earth shadow effect. Clouds are great too! I can't believe the detail in the formations up front. I couldn't say this is my favorite Grand canyon shot, but it is definately up there with the best I have seen, for my taste.

The clouds are like cotton candy floating in the air, a real 3d feel. Exceptional colors and beautiful comp. Should make a nice print Michael.

Beautiful shot Michael. I love the details and subtle color variations within the canyon itself. The front clouds look just a bit too contrastly IMO, but perhaps that's just due to the brighter sky in the BG.

I remember seeing this on your flickr site. I love the colors, cloud formations and the sharp details. What this shot doesn't convey is the vastness of the canyon, which, to me, is the challenge of shooting the Grand Canyon. I think I like the comp on your latest GC post from flickr a little better. Having said all that, I still really like this shot and I'm sure it will look great as a large print!

Is there a CCW tilt or am I seeing things? I agree with Bill on those clouds - they almost look posterized. That aside, sweet image, the layers of clouds really help give it depth.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Here is a repost with contrast taken out of the main two clouds and a little on the left side too. I also adjusted for the CCW tilt and left the frame uncropped so you can see the adjustment. While processing, I originally added a CCW tilt because I thought it looked tilted the other way. Anyways, cropping is a pain because I don't want to lose any space between the cloud and the edge of the frame. Any thoughts on that matter are greatly appreciated. BTW - the wind was blowing in 60 mph gust that day which convoluted the process of image capture. Thanks again.

What a view! Beautiful scene, Michael. I love the colors here and great clouds floating above.
I can see why you don't want to loose any more room around the clouds and the edge. I think the clouds look better in the repost. Very nice.

Pretty cool shot. Seems like excessive darkening to the clouds? and a slight ccw tilt but dig the light and layers.

Wow, those clouds look like alien spacecraft just hovering over the canyon. They really pop out from the sky, and for some reason they almost look fake to me (I'm not suggesting they are, but something seems to be playing tricks with my eyes here). Although it's a cool effect, and quite possibly completely natural, I think the image would be stronger if you downplayed the contrast in the clouds. That would encourage the viewer to explore the detail and color of the canyons, which is really quite nice.

Sublime is the word! The light and color and atmosphere all work to make this just that. I hope you print this to the largest possible size! :toast:
