Been watching this family of Red Headed Woodpeckers working on the hole in this tree. Wondering about the crop here. Not sure if i should include the hole in lower right.
From kayak, handheld, D300,200-400mmVR,1.4TC,ISO 400,f/8,1/1250sec, exp.comp.-.67
All C&C welcome and appreciated.

Ken to me all the tree in the image makes it a bit heavy to that side. I might rework the comp to get a bit better balance if this were mine. Exposure looks good as does sharpness.

I tend to agree with Ron. Keep some of the tree for interest but bring it down a little.

I love the shot of the bird. This is one of my favorites that I keep trying to get. So far nothing nearly this good. They are quick little suckers!

I agree with the previous comments. The light was very harsh, but you managed it quite well!

Nice job on exposure, Ken. Comp has been mentioned, but I really like the image of the bird.

Really nice job handling the light here Ken, I would leave the hole in the image as it adds a lot to the story imo. :toast:

That dark hole in the bright perch is a bummer, Ken. It is distracting and I'm not seeing a really good composition with a large enough crop to eliminate it.I wonder if you could do something with curves or shadows/highlights to bring the brightness of the perch down and that of the hole up? Excellent job on the bird. :toast:
