New Year's Day 2009!

I guess this didn't impress me much when I looked through my raw files from this shoot back then. But, the lack of opportunity for capturing new images lately has put me into the archives to see what I might have overlooked. I thought this one was worth processing??? Don't know how you'll feel about it, but I was feeling pretty okay.
It's from Gleason Beach, Sonoma Coast, Ca. A fun day out with fellow NPN'r Ben Glatt. I have included a larger version as well. I hope you enjoy it, and thank you for your thoughts.

18-70mm,

1/2sec, F/13,

Thanks,
Chris

Well, I hope it impresses you more now. The is really nice. The spacing of the rocks creates a nice rhythm and the monochrome fits it perfectly.

Certainly impresses me Chris. Very well composed and executed. Your conversion is flawless - beautiful tones and contrast. The large version is a knock-out!

I like this a lot Chris. Some connections to this place since it is close to where my sister lives on the left coast (which I do visit frequently). B&W conversion is grand with a well balanced tonal range.!

Great stuff as usual I can say now! This is another fine subtle seacape. I just love the way you do these scenes - quiet and elegant, no superficial effects and drama. Bw works great here too. And that darker diagonal cloud adds a lot to the comp. imo. :toast:

A good find Chris. Certainly worth processing. I reiterate Tony's comments about the spacing of the rocks and I like the motion in the water, especially that distant wave crashing in the background. A couple small items regarding the sky: 1) you have a rather large dust spot on the left hand side 2) Personally, I think the noise levels look a little high, an easy fix if you care to go in that direction. Overall, very well done my friend.

Cool shot, Chris! I agree about the nice rocks spacing. The one nice splash is a nice touch. The wave highlites are a little on the bright side for me. Overall, excellent!

Very nice, Chris. The comp looks great, and I too like the one splash near the center. Looks great with the b/w conversion. You really need to look at this one in the large version. Good you went back and found this one.

Chris, for being up there in grey weather you sure are pretty productive. I agree with Tony about the rhythm of the rocks. There's a lot going on in the foreground but it works together. Great job on the conversion as well.

I just did the same thing. I like it! Not extremely dramatic but it is a well processed and composed shot. The one wave helps bring the eye in for the action.

Chris,

Interesting because the thumbnail and standard size version don't jump out at me as being anything more than a standard view, but the large version I'm amazed at how it starts to really grab me. The tonal range and processing are outstanding with a nice balance between shadows and highlights.

The band of darkness in the clouds adds a little bit of dynamics to this. Definitely like the large version - rings true.

I missed this one when it was initially posted, but this is really nice! The large version especially has lots to take in. Great work processing, especially on the fg rocks.
