Pine Forest

I camped at this location a few weeks ago and the morning light was incredible. So, I returned this past weekend and all I woke up to was rain. In the afternoon the sun poked out long enough for a couple shots and that was it. I like the depth here even though the trees are abit tight.

I hope this comes out OK, I had to turn the quality levels down to 2 to get within posting specs, usually I don't have to go that low. I will post large version also.

Canon 7D with tripod, AE Priority, 1/15 sec, F/16, -2/3 Exposure Comp, ISO 100.

Thanks for looking and all C&C welcomed.

John,

You picked a tough subject to make an image from. Your exposure, your post processing (if you did) is spot on. There are parts of the image I really like, the colors in the bark, the play of light, but as with most images of trees ( forests ) it's difficult to translate your feelings when you made the photo into a compelling image. So as a whole it's not touching me, or I'm not connecting with how this made you feel. Hope I'm making sense.

Definitely suffering from compression, but I guess that's to be expected when saved at level 2. I love walkng through areas like this so I do understand why you're attracted to this, but I also know how hard it is to to compose an engaging image from this type of scene, and I think that's hurting you somewhat. Overall, it appears too crowded IMO - I think I might have tried to get in the woods a bit more and try for a lower prespective with the widest angle lens you have looking slightly upward to capture the pinestraw expanding outward and the trees reaching upward. Just my .02 of course.

The dappled light on the ground is whats attracting my eye the most. It has a nice abstract quality.

John, really like the dappled light throughout, along with the reddish colored trunks. Nicely seen and presented.

I like the texture/reds of the bark, and that light/shadow adds a lot of interest John.
Great DOF.
It's one of those images that require an abstract frame of mind to fully appreciate..
One can see the forest from the trees
