Verdin

Canon EF 500mm f4L IS, Canon EF 2x II tc, Canon EOS 1D MkII camera, ISO 400, 1/200 sec at f 22, -.3 ec, tripod, 60% of full frame.

These little guys always remind me of little clowns. They are always on the move and are always like little acrobats, sometimes hanging upside down. I was lucky to catch this one standing still for a change. I had stopped the lens down to hopefully get the tail in acceptable focus, too. I just barely caught it.

Wow, you really had to pull out all the stops (pun intended) to get the entire body in focus, I rarely go to f22. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. I like the looks of this species, love the yellow face. To my eye some of the plumage looks slightly coarse on the larger view, like you oversharpened possibly.

Very nice image. Good work getting this bird to remain still for any image.

This is an excellent image Tom. The detail is just superb and I like the background colors with the face of the Verdin. f/22 - wow!

Really nice image. The larger version shows some great detail, especially around the head area. Must have been some pretty intense light to still be at 1/200 at f22. Nice job.

Good job in getting everything in focus, you do not see f22 used very often in bird photography. I really like these birds, I see them all the time in the desert behind our place but getting a decent image of them is something else. Well done.
