After renting a kayak and touring a few of the wildlife areas in Northern Vermont, I finally broke down a bought one. This image from my "Maiden Voyage" on the Missisquoi River and the Missisquoi NWR, Vermont.

Sounds like a fun voyage. The head looks pretty sharp and I like the feet and the water drops trailing behind. Unfortunately the whites on the wing and back are blown. When you see those white birds, go ahead and drop that EV to at least -.7, or even -1.0. You can always bring them up a little in post-processing if absolutely necessary. Enjoy your kayak.

A kayak in Vermont, sounds like many adventures ahead. I like the comp and overall focus on this but it is a difficult constrast shot to get right.

Chuck,

Photographing a white bird is a challenge, even more of challenge with a relatively dark background and in flight. I like the trailing legs, the flying water droplets, background and the downward stroke of the wings. I probably would have decreased my EV comp even more to control the whites, the whites here look like they got too hot to recover them in RAW.

Big congrats on the new kayak, I bet you will have tons of fun with it.
