Maybe this scene really represents how far humans have reached into the private life of the wildlife.

Nikon D200, 80-400mm Nikkor, C-PL filter, tripod, Yellowstone National Park.

Thank you for your comments,

Andrey

Are you a mind reader Andrey?

I've been contemplating the next theme for EPJ, and "Animals with Photographers" has been leading the way. And this great shot settles it! You and anyone else who reviews this photo have a sneak preview of what I'll be announcing next week. :toast:

I really like the rapt attention the elk are paying to the photographers. It's almost as is they're listening to garner a few photo tips. That impression is augmented by seeing the backs of the elk and the front of the photogs.

If you shot this in RAW you could fill the shadows and bump the exposure slightly. But be careful! A lot of the mood is in fact due to the directional warm light playing against the shadows. For that matter, even if it's not a RAW capture you can open it in ACR and do much the same thing. Long as I'm passing along options, you can even do the adjustment in Selective Color in Photoshop, but that's a bit more fiddly.

That's not criticism by any means. I like this shot!

Andrey, I can't climb into Hank's head but I really like this image. What I like best is that ever without your title, the image tells us a story. Well seen and captured.

I have seen this in the field as well. Good thing a large bull wasn't jealous of the cows or the photogs would be in big trouble.

I've seen this in Yellowstone, too. Crazy, and asking for big trouble. Nice shot, Andrey!

Doggone it, I was up near the parking lot watching a bull elk way off in the valley when a younger but still very large bull walked up behind us REAL CLOSE and very quietly! Thankfully animal and humans were very careful with each other. Thankful also that there were other people there to warn us. I'll never forget it.
