Soft Landing

Second day in the kayak at Missisquoi NWR and I thought I'd attempt a "Small in the Frame" post of this Great Egret landing. I picked up on this idea from Mia McPherson's website and felt this image might work. This shot was taken towards the later part of the afternoon as the overcast cloud deck had settled in.

I like the image and the misty, moody feel to it.

Really nice!
This evokes an "oriental" feel for me.
If you have the pixels, I'd also like to see a "medium" crop, with the heron and a few less brannches.

I like the pose of the egret as it comes in for the landing. I also like Sandy's idea of a slightly tighter crop.

Chuck,
I really like this landing shot with a misty atmosphere. I agree with others about a slightly tighter crop.

I like the overall affect of the lighting here Charles. I think the comp works as it, but a tight comp might work too if the bird is sharp enough to handle it.

Chuck,

This image has a very nice mood and I like seeing the egret small in the frame and believe that adds to the mood. Great landing pose, subtle colors. I like the lines the branches and twigs add to the frame. I think I might crop some off of the bottom to just above your copyright mark. It is a small amount but I think it adds a bit more punch to the comp. Nice work.

I too think a slightly tighter crop would work better. Nice positioning of the egret in the frame with the branches.

I like this very much Chuck. Your framing works just fine for me and I enjoy the landing pose of the egret. One of your best posts IMO.

I think this is a wonderful comp Chuck, the bird is right about the 1/3 axis of each plane and the branches spreading up to greet him are great. I think there's a small dust spot near the top right of the frame. Beautiful shot :toast:
