Taken at Loro Park zoo in North Tenerife.

Shot through thick degraded perspex or glass and I had to add some contrast in my processing to compensate.

Sony A350
Sigma 50-500 EX
1/200th second
f6.3
ISO 400
420mm
Hand held
Full frame (no pixels were harmed in the making of this picture)

Interesting image. Do you have any info on this animal? Looks like it has a serious hair loss and/or is very old. Thanks for sharing.

Well done. The exposure on the face, hand and coconut looks great. I think you can selectively tone down the brightness/contrast on just the piece of fruit in the mouth, enabling the eyes to better become the key focal point for the viewer.

Thanks John, sorry but I haven't any info on this animal, it was just one of many that I photographed in the zoo.
Thanks Lon, good point about the brightness of the fruit

Hi Geoffrey,

Considering you were shooting through thick glass, this is a very good result, agree with Lon re the bright fruit.

LOL the pixel comment

Thanks for the advice, here's a version with the fruit toned down a little
Looks better now doesn't it?

The IQ looks great Geoff, I would never have guessed you were shooting though a glass or perspex panel. I like Lon's suggestion and your repost is proof that he was right. What I like about this is the interesting character you shot here, certainly not the average looking chimp I would say, my guess is this is an oldie. One thing that confuses me a bit is the fact that he is eating a fruit, but holding a coconut(?) in its other hand.

Why do I think Hamlet when I look at this? Great job on shooting through the glass. Nice clarity. The toned down fruit of the repost looks better to my eye.
