Whiteface Cloudscape

I haven't posted anything in while so I'm kicking myself back in the game. So far Autumn has been a bit of a let down. I can honestly say I've never seen a year when things peaked so quickly and then came down so fast, sped up but 6-8 inches of rain and high winds for 36 hours last week. Normally we're at peak right now where I live in VT, but this year I'd say 50-60% of the trees are already bare and the color that's left is pretty dull.

Oh well enough complaining, as my wife says "Shut up and go take pictures, it's still pretty." This is from this weekend on a quick blast over to the Adirondacks. There was a bit of color kicking around in the relatively fast moving clouds so I added a 3 stops of neutral density for the longer shutter speed and blurred clouds. Thanks for looking.

I'm with you on the fall color, I honestly have yet to get a decent fall shot this year. I might head up to this area tomorrow if the day isn't another washout.

Anyways, nice shot. I really like the movement in the clouds and the way the foreground grasses arc almost in the same direction as some of the clouds. The subtle color in the clouds adds a nice touch.

This is stunning Kurt. The lines, soft clouds, color and detail make this a very cool shot. Very nicely done.

You definitely made the best of it. Interesting clouds and foreground to go with the background mtn color.

I like the long exposure on those clouds. Beautiful.

The way the FG draws my eye into the frame is excellent. Nice job in bringing out the colors of the clouds.

The sweep of the water backward to the colored hills is a great comp, and the reflected light is a nice touch. Sorry the color isn't lasting, it looks pretty good in this photo.

Kurt - I know what you mean - I am frustrated with the fall too. Oh well - there is always the next year.
This image has a dreamy feel - and way more than a regular fall shot. Well done

Thanks Arnab. Yeah, I don't know what's been up with the foliage the past several years, perhaps even going back 5 or so. It seems as though the trees are stressed, either from temp., drought, fungus, too much water, different every year. The one common denominator has been fairly lack luster color on the whole. Upon inspection a lot of leaves, seem to have some kind of fungus or brown pockmarks on the surface and margins and many are drying up and falling without actually turning color. Certainly there are pockets that produce stunning color but on the average things have tended to be dry and drab, especially among sugar maples.

Also struggling with fall color Kurt, very sporadic in Wisconsin. Glad I went up this past weekend to shoot, because most stuff will be/already is falling.

Nice capture here, I like the mood and colors, and the comp leads in nicely.

This looks pretty good, Kurt. Granted, it's not all fall color, but the comp and light really highlight what's there. Fantastic clouds.

I think you have enough color in the foliage. Everything else is great too. I like this a lot. Pretty nice light here also. I really enjoy the foreground a lot.

:toast: Best fall shot I have seen this year. In Ontario, there are virtually no reds - Great job on this one.
