Morning Fishing

This Great Egret is well aware of the old saying, "It's the early bird that gets the fish.... err worm." So I found him up early today looking over the breakfast menu.

I love the reflection and the light on the feathers from the ripples in the water. The impression I get is that the egret seems a bit underexposed. I think it could stand some brightening without losing any detail in the whites.

Hi Buck,
I appreciate your taking time to comment on this egret. The original raw image is noticeably brighter and gave a hint of feather group definition in the whites. In LR I deliberately worked at lowering the exposure and lights to bring out as much feather definition as possible. I did lose a bit of the BG but am satisfied with the whites as shown. I think it's all a matter of personal taste and thank you for your thoughts.

I like the exposure. My very first impression when I looked at it was early morning. The mood is very nice.

Hi Craig,
Nice setting with good colors. I think there is too much negative space below the reflection. Better eye contact would have raised this image to the next level.

Craig,

I loves the shades of blue in your image, the reflection and stalking pose. I do think taking about half the blue off of the bottom may strengthen the comp, but that is merely my personal tastes. I like the light.
