Nikon D200; ISO 200; f5.6; 500 sec.; 400mm Sigma.

This the tail end of an annual event in Grand Teton National Park. For several weeks each fall black bears descend on this area for the Hawthorn berries and hundreds of photographers gather to witness the spectacle.

Very cool! Great pose on this guy. I hear it's a horrible year for Hawthorn and other berries out west...good that you were able to capture this.

Nice image, caught the bear in an interesting pose. The bear does look just abit soft. Thanks for sharing and the story behind the photo.

The colorful leaves on the Hawthorn contrast very nicely with the rest of the scene. I like the sitting pose, looks like he is there to stay for a while. Good job having him facing the camera and giving us a view of those eyes and erect ears. The coat appears a bit soft, might just be the soft fur, the eyes and face look good and sharp. :toast:

Nice pose n setting!
It may benefit from increase in the contrast, although focus appears to be on twigs.

This is very nice Roger. The sitting pose is what makes this special I think. I too vote for a slight increase in contrast.

Love that sitting pose and the comical question look on his face. Nice placement in the frame. Wish you had posted it at the larger size so we could take it in better.

Wonderful pose, setting and story to this, a little contrast adjustment and this is a winner, way to go.

What a great pose! I also enjoyed this spectacle last week. It totally amazed me how the bears would ignore all the photographers surrounding them. I have to say it was quite a circus atmosphere.

Thanks for the constructive comments. The light was flat for this image, so, yes, I agree that more contrast is needed. As for sharpness, it's unfortunately often a hit or miss matter when shooting with my 80-400 mm Sigma. Saving for a better replacement.

Love the eyes and the way the red leaves add a nice splash of color.

Great pose. I laso like the way the line of the legs and branches lead the eye toward the bear. The red leaves provide a nice splash of color.

Great pose and the red leaves are a definite enhancement. To me, the single stem crossing the nose is a bit unfortunate. I would add a bit of sharpening/&/or contrast to the face. The comp is real nice, with the branches angling down to the bear.

I do love the colours, composition and pose in this photograph - possibly the branch interfered with your focusing on the bear. Lovely and cute though, I would possibly increase the saturation of the green colour a bit. But really nice! :toast:
