Chestnut-rumped Thornbil

An adult Chestnut-rumped Thornbill photographed at the entrance to its nest hollow in central New South Wales. These little blokes were hanging around our camp, after a few day we discovered their nest about four feet off the ground in a nearby dead tree trunk. They were completely unperturbed by our presence and all four young successfully fledged.

Canon 7D, EF500 f4 + 1.4tc, tripod, kwk camo, ISO 400, f/8, 1/250, full frame vertically cropped.

Looks familiar - good job getting the bird and trunk around the nest hole infocus. Nice head turn.

cheers

Very good details Simon, f/8 worked well here IMO. I usually don't care for birds centered but this comp works very well for me. Nice capture.

Very nice image. The only nit would be if the bird was a little farther to the left of the frame. But that is a small thing, the image is great the way it is.

Beautiful, Simon. I really like the look of the eye. I might have gone with a bit more dof to put the perch in better focus. :toast:

Another interesting species from down under. Only wish would be for a bit more room on top and possibly toward the URC. :toast:

Simon, Interesting species (as yours often are for me), great head turn and nice details. Perhaps slightly tight for my tastes.
