Bring on the Night

A different mood from some of my earlier posts from Swiftcurrent Lake during my recent visit to Glacier late summer. I used some of your suggestions on earlier posts to crop this image to center Grinnell Point. Not sure if the cropped aspect ratio with please everyone, but maybe more balanced overall. The scene looked much darker and foreboding than the exposure would indicate. Much detail would have been lost if I depicted the scene as my eyes saw it. Lightning flashed in the distance, but the relative brightness in the background clouds overwhelmed the lightning strikes. Hopefully I have captured some of the mood, while keeping the detail interest.

Canon 5D MII, ISO 100, 17-40L, 2 stop grad ND, hard edge w/ movement, 30 sec exposure.

Your comp/crop has worked well Harry, nicely detailed sharp image with plenty of interest.

I'm not sure about the mood but I like what I see, well done!

Yes, very moody looking sky. The foreground rocks have some really interesting textures which I like very much.

The clean crispness in the FG rocks is really what pulls me in here leading me up to a wonderful dark moody sky. Well done.

This is very nice, Harry. I really like the textures in the foreground and the drama in the sky.

Very moody and appealing image, Harry. The sky is what pulls me in, but it's the foreground rocks that keep me interested.

Very striking Harry. I love the time duration applied to the wind flattened water and the contrasting red rocks with turquoise water. If anthing the sky could do with being even more alarming as that would increase the already splendid mood here.

Another great shot from here! You really have a diverse pallette of light and color from this location. I like the cooler presentation of this shot a lot, as well as the beautifully detailed foreground.

Aspect ratio looks great Harry. I especially like the foreground and of course those lovely foreboding clouds. Great work.

Really good shot. Love the detail on the foreground rocks. Also like the way the mountains on both sides of the centre one is somewhat blurred/hazed making the centre one stand out even more. I really like the tones as well. All in all a great piece of work.

Cheers
