Small size and compression are killing this one. View larger for more impact.

Thanks for having a look and leaving a comment.

Wow, that's quite a drop, with a zillion steps. While the composition seems kind of plain, the details are wonderful. This fallen leaves add a lot. I like your choice of shutter speed on this on, resulting in a plaesing motion blur, but still retaining the details in the water.

I agree with Wayne that the comp is a bit plain but it's pleasing. I usually don't like extra long shutter speeds that turns flowing water into a complete blur without any detail (my typical shutter speed of choice would be similar to yours here), but in this case an extra long shutter might have made the fairly sparse water flow more interesting. It's a beautiful falls.

Interesting pyramidal comp. I think the problem, as alluded to in the preceeding comments, is that the foliage etc is just a tad 'blah' here. I like the falls tho...

Gorgeous cascading waterfall Bret! For a minute I thought it was on on Cape Breton! I like the comp and especially the color.

Hi Bret,

Knowing you...I am sure this image is tack sharp, but the compression is really hurting it. For me, the water level of the falls is just too low for this to be aesthetically pleasing. I'd call this good location scouting and plan on returning when there is more water in the spring time.

Don't know what's going on with the colors but they're very muted and unattractive here. The original is nice and vibrant.

Really like the perspective Bret. The details and textures in the rocks I find really outstanding, in spite of the compression. Beautifully done in my book.

The colors do seem a bit muted, and a bit yellow (especially the greens). Very cool falls. Thanks for posting the larger version, the detail is much better there.

Hey Bret,

Great to see a post from you too! I think you could call this the "Grand Staircase" or something like that. I happen to really like the color here and especially the golden tones throughout the staircase from the leaves as well as reflected light off some of the rocks. No doubt so much detail is lost here, but I can imagine this would be a real treat to see in a large print. Thanks for posting!

The larger version does indeed have more impact. I like the bands of color captured here. Probably wasn't possible, but my eye wants to get right up into those top two tiers of the falls as the fg for some reason.
