Killdeer
by Matt Shellenberg
Charadrius vociferus
Killdeer are so common, I do not tend to pay them as much attention as I should. I find them one of the most beautiful shorebirds. I was really happy with the light on this one.
If possible, please view the larger post for detail.

10 commentsKilldeer are perhaps the least common plover in my haunts and so I try to photograph them whenever I see them. So far I've been unable to get a decent picture. I'd be delighted to get one like this.
I like the alert pose, lovely view of the eye and the red orbital ring, setting with the newly emerging vegetation, mud and water in the background. The light is beautiful too. I might selectively sharpen the brown tones of the killdeer to bring out the details in the plumage a little more.
Nice dof and exposure.
I would love to see you take Mia's suggestion to see if it improves an already excellent image.
