I bought a cable release and wanted to try some longer exposures so I headed to a location I thought would have some good morning light. This was pretty blah in colour so I converted it to B&W and played with it a bit. I'm not thrilled with the quality, and the BG mountain is too far away, but other than that I like the way it turned out. Any thoughts or comments?

Looks like a cool spot! I like the comp, how the stream leads deep into the distance--thats nice. My only nit is the sky looks a bit noisy.

This doesn't necessarily wow me, but the light is perfect and so is the B&W. Very easy image to look at and enjoy.

I don't necessarily agree that the mountains in the background are too far away. However, a suggestion to reduce this perception would be to crop the sky to get to a 4x5 format and then enlarge the image back up to a height of 720 pixels. This would make the mountain appear slightly larger within the image and would also have the added effect of achieving the "classic" rule of thirds compositional technique with respect to the placement of the horizon.

The conversion to b/w was a great idea, works really well here. I like the FG and the mountain, but feel there is too much sky. I would try cropping off about 2/3 of the sky.

Yep, at 10mm (@16mm equivalent) anything in the bg is going to shrink considerably. But I don't think that is too much of an issue here, because the bright distant water reflection makes for a great contrast and pull my eye there anyways. I'd favor a crop off the top to a maybe more 4x5 ratio and call it good. Nice work!

Other than a little graininess in the sky, this is great. It's a nice conversion, has nice light and mood. Very effective shot IMO!

Although there's some really nice light in the sky, I agree with others that cropping at least 1/2 of it will strengthen to comp.
