Calm Before the Leafstorm

Peak foliage season is supposed to be over, but the oaks and beeches hang onto their leaves a long time, and some of the yellow sugar maples leaves are still hanging on around the Hudson river a few miles from my home. Not sure how much longer it will last, because the wind picked up after this misty morning, causing a "leafstorm" in the area. (The next day I spent some time shooting hundreds of leaves floating down the river -- see my post in the Flora Gallery today for a sample.)

The thumbnail really shows how well you comped the lines in this one, Wayne. Excellent depth and color. And the mist on the water is just so much icing. :toast:

Yes, fantastic depth Wayne and wonderful comp, not to mention the gorgeous color. Oaks and beechesseem to be turning late here as well in MA and ME.

I really like the depth, the color, the reflecting and the for. If it were mine I might be tempted to crop some of the tree roots off on the left, but I am not sure. It is a very nice image no matter what.

Your comp is excellent, and the foreground is very interesting. But I have a sweet tooth, and can't help but be drawn to all that eye candy in the Background! The mist adds something extra special here as well.

Wow, outstanding comp and processing, as usual, Wayne. Love how you handled the sky.

Wayne, I think this is one of yor best pieces of work. The way I am drawn into the image is amazing, the colors, fog and reflections and outstanding. Did not think it possible to achieve such front to back detail at f2.8. WOW :jump:

Love the background Wayne. The autumn colors with the mist and reflection are gorgeous and can easily stand on their own, in my opinion, without the roots in the foreground. Beautiful either way though.

Hmmm--on the one hand, its tempting to say that such a cool bg and a cool fg subject ought to work well together---but im not totally sold; there seems to be a disconnect for me with so much river space between the main subjects--the harmony of the bg and the discordant roots up front just dont gel for me as well as id like them too--just the way i see it. I think it might have worked better for me with an angle further from the left side. :wavey:

It's a good image, but I'm on the fence with this one Wayne. I really like the soft fog over the water that creeps into the trees, and the colors on the hills are very nice. I'm not as comfortable with the FG tree roots.

Another winner - looks like you're having a great fall up there. Love this comp and also the low hanging mist/fog on the water. Great color.

Another really pretty fall image, Wayne. I guess I'm not so sure about the foreground either. I pretty much agree with Stan's feelings on that. What I really do like is the color and fog and what looks like an island, that with the reflection looks awesome. Wondering if you shot this without that foreground. What a beautiful spot!

I agree with some of the above. The upper right 2/3 is to die for. Take away the close stuff and it's perfection!!
