My first time in Zion was more spectacular than I anticipated. My friend had been to the Zion Canyon area and seemed to over hype the area. He had not done the Subway or the entire Narrows. I visted lated October this year and the area was magical. I have never hiked up streams and slots like these. I had about 10 minutes in the classical Subway area to myself, then it was a matter of trying to work around other visitors and 2 other photographers. This vantage point seemed to speak to me more than other possibilities, so I took some shots before other folks walked into the view. I thought the light seemingly bending off the tunnel wall, creating the shadow in the water was pretty cool. I used two vertcals stitched to gather the entire view.

I seemed to have more light in the subway area than I have seen in other photos. Definately not as dark as the Narrows. Hard to get a lot of originality with this location, one of those iconic places you have to see regardless of the hype.

I have considered cropping off the top a bit to eliminate the bright foliage, but I would rather have more than less and make the decision while sitting in a cozy chair with a cup of coffee than sitting in a chilly pool of water. Any thoughts on this welcome.

That's really cool, having never been there it's nice to see a wider angle shot and what else is around. I like the comp for the most part but feeling like the righthand side is holding my attention much more (love that glowing tunnel), except for the nice spillway on the extreme left.

Seems like such a cool place. I need to get down there some day. Cool perspective Harry.

Thanks Kurt - I agree- much more interest and action on the right side. I could crop a little tighter on the left. I chose this angle to catch more of the flow in the near fall. If I faced more downstream, less flow. With a wide angle, I knew that the FG needed to hold interest so I compromised a bit, hopefully not too much.

Thanks for the observation, Harry

For sure the right side if the more powerful one, but I like how the curve and the rock on the left border the shot and on top of that all the leafs on the rocks are nice to look at too.
That's a very well done shot overall for me, Harry.

It's always an intriguing, beautiful scene, but you've more than done it justice by presenting it with a somewhat unique composition. I could go either way on a crop of the top . . . the only "problem" I have with the top is that it draws my eye a bit because it's slightly brighter than the balance of the scene overall.

Nice take on the Sub, Harry! Does seem to be quite a bit of light in there. I would have preferred a bit more on the rhs here, but thats a minor nit.

Absolutely beautiful. One of my favorite images I've seen of late. Thanks for sharing it.

As others have noted, the light draws to the right. But the composition works amazingly well with the diagonal through the shadows. And I like the foliage at the top. The greens add depth to the colors, overall. I really love this one.

That light through the tunnel is mesmerizing. I think you hit it out of the park with this one. I don't think I'd take any room from the left b/c I like how I can see the entire rim of the pool. You could probably lose some off the top, but that's not necessary IMO. Great shot!

Congratulations on your first Subway experience! This is extremely well composed for a first-timer. I had nothing compared to this from my first two or three visits to the Subway. My only critique is that the edge of the pool is cut off in the LRHC. The golden glow of the pool is a little unexpected to me. What time of day was this image taken?

Its an icon, but a really beautiful one. Very well done, Harry. I like your idea to maybe crop some off the top.

I really like your take of this place as it's a little more original than other. The key element for me here is the shape resemblance between the nice curve in the right fg and the actual subway. Cool shot, Harry!

Jim - This one was taken around 1 PM. A bit later in the afternoon, the brightness of the light on adjacent walls outside of the subway seemed blinding compared to the darker Subway. I suspect early afternoon is the best lighting, but also the most people.

Dorin - I too was attracted to the repetition of shapes of the rock lip and the subway tunnel. It seemed a natural way for the eye to travel through the image.

A more wider version, with the rock edges at the left as suggested by Jim G.
