A second composition from Elowah Falls in the Columbia River Gorge. I prefer my prior post, a more iconic view, but this is interesting to compare.

Nikon D80
Nikon 12.0-24.0 mm f/4.0 at 12 mm
1/10 & 0.7 sec at f/16 and ISO 100
Hand blend of three photos for DOF and DR

I like this very much, John. I've been to Elowah Falls once. I did
not come away with something this unique, and the colors are
great. You definitiely have a strong FG.

I am surprised that this only has two comments. This is excellent, John. I love the array of autumn color and the subtle glow in the scene is wonderful. Great depth BTW. :toast:

This composition stands up very well against the "iconic" shot! FG, depth of field, and color combinations are great!

I really like this as it's not such an iconic view. I love the way you composed this with the leaves in the FG. Great colors too. All in all, an excellent image IMO.

This I actually prefer John as it is a bit more unique and the tree actually balances the image well. Cool leaf in the foreground by the way.

I like that you've captured not only a beautiful scene, but also included enough visual cues to convey the season and general character of the place as well. It's more than just interesting to compare with the more conventional view . . . I'd say it's about equally stunning.

Nicely balanced comp--well done as usual! Ive been agreeing with pretty much all your critique recently, so theres not much to add beyond echoing your own comments!

Thanks for your followup to me about the water tones. I agree that when I do everything "right" the tones are too yellow. I definitely like your cooler tones of both the water and greenery. This must have been befor the rain. I was there on Saturday but my posted shot was 2 days after, during the rain.

I think the fg leaves really set up this image beautifully. I feel like I'm in the thick of the ferns looking up at the beautiful waterfall. Lush colors, nice lighting...wish it were mine.

Lovely composition and processing John. A beautiful flowing falls...my only small suggestion is a slight reduction of saturation in the fg amongst the leaves and ferns.

Stunning! This would be excellent even without the leaves in the LRHC. Including them puts this composition in a higher category. The only thing I might be wishing for in a perfect world is perhaps just a little more room at the bottom so that the leaves weren't right at the bottom edge. But this is such a minor issue, and it doesn't detract from the composition in the least.

This is a unique shot of Elowah, John. It's amazing how different this waterfall looks from up here compared to the classic view down below. Processing looks great and I really like the maple leaf in the foreground.

I really like this angle you found, might even prefer it over the more traditional view. The foreground here is wonderful.

Your usual great color and light capture. The only possible nit would be to have a touch more room below the leaf in the foreground, but that may have introduced an unwanted element. Gorgeous shot!
