Golden Punchbowl

I spent some time this last weekend exploring Eagle Creek for the first time. I only scratched the surface in terms of possible compositions...it seemed like every turn held something new! Punchbowl Falls lit up for only a moment, with rays illuminating the textures of the canyon walls and submersed rocks. Although I bracketed, I decided to leave the highlight area alone as the mist/fog/clouds that filtered the light had no distinguishing texture, only the rays that it created.

This lasted only about 10 seconds, just enough for a quick series of shots.

Thanks for your comments!

Wow, nice! Intense, but attractive light in the background. I like the colors, kind of fall like colors for ferns and moss? Comp is familiar, but I like it a lot too!

Wow, I had no idea the moss and other vegetation turned that golden and red!! I've got to get up there. Beautiful colors and light on this icon Cory.

Cory,

Wonderful work here capturing the range of light. THe rays coming through are excellent and really give the image character. I love the reflection in the water from the small tree to the right of the falls.

Beautiful color Cory. The reflection and the blown highlights take you right to the back of the image. Nice concept. Great job.

Just as good as any other shot I've seen from here. What I like about this one in particular is the strong light in the bg. What a place!

Beautiful. The water and reflections look great, and I really like the rays of light across the pine trees in the bg. Good decision on leaving the highlighted area alone imo. Nice work, Cory.

Great mood - love the misty background. The foreground colors are a bit strong and warm. I might turn them down a little to put more power on the center - just my 2c.

Great idea to forgo the highlight detail in exchange for the mood. This has a nice magical quality to it. I wish the comp was a little less straight forward, but I can't see any crop possibilities that strengthen this image in that department. Good stuff!

This is beautiful, Cory. The light streaming through the trees looks very natural to my eye and the warm colors of the walls are fantastic in the misty atmosphere. :toast:
