Dog and Little Missouri

Sunday in the wee hours my very smart clock radio very cleverly set itself back an hour; so instead of getting up at 2 a.m. DST, I got up at 2 a.m. CST, which was an hour later than I had planned. Still my dog Junie and I made it to our sunrise location on the Little Missouri River in the Ouachitas just before sunrise.

This was taken after I had been wading hip-deep in the river for about a half hour. I was sitting on a fallen tree changing into dry socks and shoes and trying to warm up a little, and I noticed how beautifully back lit all the trees around us were.

The dog-shaped blob in the foreground is Junie, who kindly consented to pose for the camera.

Sweet shot Randy; it's got a tremendous Fall feeling about it, with colorful foliage in every inch of the image. I was in the area that morning, and man was it cold! The vehicle thermometer said 31. I only waded in water a few inches deep, but where the water hit the cold air around my ankles, it stung.

This is a very interesting image. Of course for all of the right technical reasons, but also your dog gives it extra character. I wonder what he/she is looking at? Did he/she smell something in the Autumn air, or maybe just heard a distant snap or thump along the creek? It doesn't matter, just the fact that he/she is looking deep into the background does it for me. Thanks for sharing.

Randy, this is one of those images that I wish I could see in print. The web is just not going to do this justice. The scene is just wonderful but the inclusion of mans best friend just broadens the appeal of this image to a wider viewing audience. Really good work.
