A terrific evening on the frozen fjord. Pretty cool formations all over the ice this evening, giving me endless compositional options. I didnt feel totally safe though...

Have a great day!

Some lovely formations there and the light across the surface is great. Nice shot.

Very very cool Arlid. Did you also try to get close to these formation and get other comps? This one looks very nice - except the highlights in the sky is a liitle blown - you can try to darken it a tad - minor

Wicked!!! Totally love the subject, but i strongly suggest a tighter crop here--the subject is in the middle, the sides offer very little here--no need to 'water' down the drama here--crop from the sides!!

Awesome shot, Arild. Great comp with the clever off-center shift. The hot and cool colors create a wonderful vibrance. The large version rocks.

Nice scene, neat formations and some nice color in the sky. I would try to lighten the outer areas of the scene, and possibly crop some off. Nice work.

Jeez...it doesn't look safe now that you mention Arild. I am not sure why this hasn't received more comments. Very unusual and original. I like it a lot. I think you could skim just a bit of the foreground. Awesome capture and processing.

Magnificent! What a different world; I'll need to visit someday. I agree with Stan, crop down to the real action.

I'm wondering what a vertical comp would look like. Not to say your composition isn't nice, but you could really pack in some key components into a vertical shot. Love the strong blues and the fiery red/orange in the sky. Great work here!

Thx folks for all the great feedback. I see theres different opinions regarding the composition. Thats a good thing..

I wanted the mountain back to the right to be included. It`s sort of a landmark in the area and cutting it in half would be rude :-) If i had turned more to the right there was another rock coming into the frame. I could have gone a little bit closer, i can see that now. Using the icecircle as the entire foreground could definately work. I have several other comps from this evening that i`ll put up later on..

Thx again, folks!

Great shot. The aliens have landed! I love how the larger circle in the ice mimics the red 'hole in the sky'.

Trippy shot Arild! I'm wondering if you have any verticals of this location from this sunset? Seems like that cone is the center of attention and it would be great to see it in such a format.

Regardless, it's a beautiful photograph. Thanks for sharing.

Amazing image, Arild. Those ice formations are really remarkable. That ice though had to be cracking and groaning and been pretty spooky. Well done.

I like the dramatic feeling of this image. I believe that cropping the side of this picture out a little bit may make stronger impact image.

Very cool (literally and figuratively) Arild. I have never seen ice formations like these. Any thoughts on how they are formed?

Incredibly striking image, Arild. I'm strongly in the "don't crop" camp. The expansiveness of the scene is a great - maybe necessary - complement to the stark landscape, and further enhances the novelty of the ice formations. The processing is very strong as well. Minor nit with the hot portion of the sky, but it's such a small area that I don't think it detracts much at all.

Superb image all around.

Love this! Great use of that ice formation to anchor the fg and balance out that the strength of that dramatic sunset. Good stuff!
