After seeing a few beautiful sumac postings recently, I decided to take a chance for my first post in this gallery with a somewhat different "take." Sumac leaves in autumn are striking when backlighted, and they make their own shadows too.

Canon 40D, 17-85mm lens at 68mm, f/8, 1/160, handheld, modest cropping to improve composition (at least to my eye).

Thanks for comments and suggestions.

Welcome to the gallery David - a fine first post for my tastes. Rich color, interesting composition and I like the backlighting. No suggestions other than I hope to see more of your images here in the future.

Ditto to what Pat said. I like this a lot.

(Okay, so I can't resist pointing out as a Florida Gator fan how well orange and blue go together. )

Many thanks for the comments. And yes, Krunal, your keen eye spotted a white speck I had overlooked. It clones out easily, but I think it is a actual imperfection in the leaf, Nevertheless, I am going to look carefully for a spot on the image sensor.

As for orange and blue, that sure beats brown and white, the colors of the college where I spent 32 years. I forgot to mention that I did use a polarizing filter for the shot.

Krunal -- I found the exact leaf today, and the speck is actually a natural imperfection. Whew!!! Incidentally, the leaf is almost exactly the same size as in the image on my screen.

Reminds me of prayer flags. Sensational complementary colors working well in this graphic comp, Dave. Really nicely done.

I'm enjoying the comments and learning from them too, thanks.

I'm also finding that people read what is written. Yes, Chad, I "graduated" into retirement ten years ago -- it just took me 32 years to figure out how to do it.
