Leaf & Mud detail

I was attracted to this nice mud pattern folding up and cracking like paper but still holding their shape with these red leaves all around. The light was really nice as well, I was attracted to this scene because the mud created a nice pattern and the leaf was just enough to break that pattern with a splash of color. What do think, i've been working on the web sharpening trying not to do too much.

Todd,

The patterns and leaf are a nice combination. I'd like to see the mud a little darker--just a little, with maybe a touch more contrast there. The color of the leaf is very nice, and the whole image hasd great texture.

Splendid detail Todd as well as nice contrast between the red leaf and tan mud.

I love the simplicity and color is this scene. Regarding the sharpening, it does seem a bit much, IMO.

I like the contrasts in textures, color and shape Todd. I do prefer the second post and on my monitor (uncalibrated MacBook Pro 17) the sharpening looks fine.

Todd, the changes made a nice image even better IMO. Not sure you looked at the larger version here but it appears to be the same size at the 720 long side regular posted image. Not sure if you missed by just loading the same image or not. The larger version can be 1200 long side and up to 500k file size if you did not know. Regardless, a very nice scene and captured well overall.

The color looks good on my monitor. The neutrals are very natural, and the red is rich without being blown. I like the comp and concept as that red leaf really jumps out. It does look a touch oversharpened on my dinosaur of a monitor

I think it works good. Sharpening looks good on my monitor. My preference, I think, would be to spin the picture 180 degrees so the leaf is in the LLC.

Awesome Todd. What more can I say? Such a unique perspective on the fall season.

Beautiful simple image. I think the rework works better. Tony's idea is well worth a look, too, inverting the image. Nicely done, Todd.

Nice mix of the curled bits of mud and the leaf, Todd. The sharpening looks ok, though it seems to be lacking the very high frequency detail -- as if you used too large a radius in your sharpening.

Beautiful textures and pattern and with the leaf, a superb image. Do prefer the repost with the bump in contrast. Well done.

This would be fascinating to study without the leaf, but I love the leafs inclusion. A well seen and crafted image.
