Over the past weekend we went to Morro Bay, CA for the first time. Lovely place and I got to go out for some early morning light. I was in a shaded cove but this bird took off and flew into the sun and returned. Nice of him.
Comments are appreciated.

I forgot to mention that this is 35% of full frame.

You got a nice banking turn Harry and the subject is sharp. The bird looks good against that water color. I'd like to see more detail in some of the whites. Thanks for coming back and posting your crop size. I think that partially explains some of the background noise.

Harry,
beautiful flight pose and background color. I agree that the whites seem a bit bright.

Nice, Harry. Always good to get some cooperation from the bird.

Assuming you are post-processing in CS5, I'd suggest selecting the bird's chest and then trying to pull the highlights down by 5-10% to see if you can recover some detail in the whites. Then I'd select the whole bird, invert the selection to get everything else, and apply a noise reduction filter like Noise Ninja to reduce the visible noise in the water.

Harry,

I like the centered composition you used, the pose of the yellowleg and the background seem to "ask" for this composition. Love the flight pose and eye contact. I do see the background noise mentioned and think some NR on it would help. Some of the noise may have been made more noticeable by the crop. I'd try Jim D.'s suggestion to show more detail in the whites.

Morro Bay looks like it might provide you with a lot of fun :-)
