Sweet Gum

This image is the result of a team effort. My wife snapped the image with a Canon G10 (raw) and I did the post-processing. Hope that is OK with the NPN posting rules. If not, Moderators feel free to delete. (Since NM is a community property state, we both own everything 50/50--including copyrights.)

This was taken in early Nov. at Blanchard Springs in the Arkansas Ozarks. The "star" shape of the Sweet Gum leaves was really appealing and this leaf was resting on the stone foundation of an old mill. I applied some vignetting, and played around with curves and saturation until I got something we both liked. Hope you like it too.

I really like the vignetting here - especially with it being sort of uneven. The image pops and sweetgums provide a lot of photographic opportunities (especially their fruits). I would play with flipping this 180* so the tip is pointing up - sometimes you can get away with a move like that.

Btw, sweetgum has one of my favorite latin names: Liquidambar styraciflua

I like the molted colors which both blend in with and stand out from the background.

The light on the Sweet Gum leaf is impressive. Kudos on both the picture taking and the processing.

Ciao ;^)

Beautiful work on all counts for my tastes Phillip. I particularly like the composition and the light vignette. Very fine image. Congrats to both of you.

"There's no "I" in team." An evocative image imo. Well done, both of you!

Thanks for all the comments! I actually tried to flip this 180 but it just didn't look right. This is a bit of a departure from my normal landscape photography so it was fun to try something different. Glad you like it!

For a moment I thought "STAR FISH". :D Lovely saturated yet subdued colors and the vignetting adds.
