Welcome to Española

This young Galapagos sea lion came out of the water as we were wandering the beaches of Isla Española. I happened to have my wide lens on, and knelt to get a few shots. It continued to approach me, perhaps being playful or curious (or maybe I simply look like its mother). So I snapped a couple quick shots and then backed away. A brown pelican floats in the background.

Nice POV and pano comp, Max. As a minor nit I would like to see the sea lion's head faced toward the open part of the comp. Still, a very nice capture of a magical place that few will be able to witness in person. :wavey:

Nice comp Max. Water looks great! I like the way the shoreline, pelican, and seal all lead to the right.

Like the wide angle view with the surrounding beach and water. Would like to see a little more detail in the seal.

This is a great comp Max. A touch of fill would have perhaps lightented the seal Did you try it?

Thanks guys, I did try to bring up the sea lion's features a little, but obviously didn't want to go too far and give it a washed-out look.

Great image. I really like the wide angle lens effect, which we don't get to see too often in the fauna gallery. I like the pano dimensions, too. And the pelican adds to the overall feeling of the image, balancing the stark emptiness. Nice work.

I like the WA approach here Max. Your composition is solid and the pano crop works very well for me. I do wish the front of the sea lion was lit a little better, i.e. a more preferable light angle. The pelican certainly adds to the entire scene and gives a sense of depth. :toast:

Hi Max,

The others have already covered my thoughts on this image (you could pretty much ditto me on everything Vincent said!), but just wanted to pass along my compliments on this image - very nice to look at!

Cheers...

this is real nice Max. Love your composition here and the decision to place the sea lion at the bottom right corner.
