We had impressive clouds one night last summer at Capitol Reef. I don't shoot many cloudscapes, but really like the effect of images I have seen. All advice is greatly appreciated!
Thanks for looking,
Anne

Nice, I like those low clouds against the darker ones

Pleasant. The various layers are good, but without any other points of interest beyond the clouds, overall this doesn't really have the "wow" factor that'd keep me interested.

Really like the composition with the lines created by the clouds, and the stark silhouette of the land. Nicely done.

Anne,

Ditto what Vance said. I also like the various tones throughout the clouds and the contrast makes them look 3D.

Great shot, i love the nice ragged cloud layers here! I have two suggestions:
1) crop the top 1/4 (just above the top bright middle cloud)
2) increase the midtone contrast just a tiny bit, but be careful not to boost the highlites.
Nice! :wavey:

Anne,

Terrific cloudscape. I think you included just the right amount of earth to ground the image and also the little rise/mesa formation at least creates some interest in the ground portion of the image.

The clouds are wonderful. I especially like the contrast of the clouds hugging the horizon. I can see Stan's suggestions, but rather than cropping the top, I can see a selective darkening of the top clouds. Not only would it help contain or frame the cloudscape, but I think add to the stormy mood. You might also consider burning down the bright highlights a tad also.

Here's the cropped version with a little more contrast. What do you think?
