Very interesting bird; very nice presentation. Nice seeing the complete tail unobstructed. Nice setting and colors.

Ingrid,

I agree with Rich D's comments on your image, I find this very appealing. The only thing I may have done different considering your high shutter speed is to use more depth of field to get the tail as sharp as the rest of the bird, but I do like it this way too, especially because we have a clear view of the tail.

Neat bird, effective presentation Ingrid - especially considering that troublesome but very interesting tail. Really like the soft background colors and textures.

Really nice coucal Ingrid, I've found them to be difficult to get out in the open like this. This would have made a nice vertical as well. :toast:

Fantastic Ingrid - the perfect coucal shot. Great setting, detail and even light. I'd be tempted to add just a fraction to the bottom if you have any left over.

cheers

Nice image. Lovely colors and excellent sharpness in the body of the bird. Wish we could see a little more detail in the tail. Crop is a bit tight at the bottom.

Hello all, thanks so much for the comments...yes, I see your point re. more detail in the tail, I think I have shots @ f/8,0 but liked this one best in general, also b/c of the DOF...but will look again...
Furthermore, yes, there could be more space under the tail, but I don't have any as this is not a crop. Will also look if I've got a vertical version.
Thanks again!
Ingrid.

Delightful image, Ingrid. The lack of tail detail doesn't bother me at all. I think the composition and those soft green blades of grass work to pull the eye away from the tail.

What a cool looking bird...with a HUGE tail. Love the comp with the bird in between the blades of grass. A great shot Ingrid and congrats on getting all of the tail in. With a 300mm you must have gotten really close.

Beautiful bird in natural habitat. Really like the composition too. More dof might mess up the nice bokeh you have. The fresh grass is quite a bright shade of green, might lower the sat just a little. An incredible photo. :toast:
