Canon 1D Mark 4 With EF 500mm f4 and 2 X tc
1/2500 sec, F 8, ISO 800
Cropped to about 75% of the original for composition. Played with contrast and noise reduction on this one. Thanks for looking.

Love that long tail and the pink ring around the bill. The duck is right smack dab in the center of the picture and I think you could decenter him by taking some off the bottom for a more interesting composition. Or, its such a looong duck that a pano crop might work.

Michael,
I Love the pose of the duck, the great eye contact and how well the Old Squaw stands out from the deep royal blues of the water.
The long tail of this species can make composition a challenge, I think you did well with it, the length of the tail balances out the duck being nearly centered very nicely.
That splashing bow wave is great and so are the water droplets on the bird.

Great shot of a cool looking duck. I like the long tail. I also like the little "breaking wave" splashing against his chest. One of these guys has been spotted down here in Dallas, Texas and is causing a stir on the local Audubon bird talk website. Apparently it is quite rare in this area. Nice job!

Good details and a really nice "long tail". It does seem to have a purple color cast to it though which may have been a result of adjusting the contrast.

Nice work. Like how the fg swell sort of cradles the duck and adds a sense of motion. Good comp as well.
