Neotropic Cormorant

Sugar Land TX.

D3 ISO 320. 300/2.8 with 2x tc. F7.1. 1/640. Handheld. Morning Sun. Cropped to about 30% of original.

These wooden sticks are located several places in some man made lakes near my home. They are very small and look like an uncomfortable perch for such a large bird, but the cormorants seem to love them and occupy them almost every day. They do leave when you come near.

InCREDible detail, especially on the blacks! A little centered, though..

Amazing how they perch on something so user unfriendly. Be nice to have that much balance.
Great job on exposure, Angela. This is a tough bird to shoot because of the detailed blacks.

Great detail in the plumage Angela, your exposure is spot on. Love the pose and the view of the jewel colored eye. We get them here in Utah in the summer but I haven't been able to get close. They are great at fishing!

Nice detail on this dark bird. The perch could be mistaken for a reed in this photo.

Perfect on the blacks as stated by the others. I am blown away on the 30%.

Very nice image Angela. Love the detail in the feathers, and that eye color and comp. Nice to include a bit of habitat as well. Only nit is a small sharpening halo.
