Bighorn Ram

During the rut Bighorn rams are generally in a hurry seeking out ewes. From last week, D700, 200-400VR, tripod, 500 iso, 1/3200, f4, +1 EV, 60% of original frame.

Powerful. The eyes sparkle and I like the rim light on the horns and the wide shoulder stance of the ram. The snow spray really adds a lot in terms of motion here. Good one, Gary.

I like the raw power this shows. The flying snow and ram's motion are nice.
Also, you've handled the light very well.

Gary, this is tremendous scene. I've never seen a shot of a bighorn plowing through snow like this (usually bison or elk). I really like it.

From a technical standpoint, it appears slightly warm on my monitor, and there's a slight loss of contrast in the body of the ram, which I assume stems from trying to bring out the details(?).

Really like that shadow behind the head and the snow flying around the feet.

One needs to see the larger image to really appreciate this. I love the way the snow is flying, thus indicating the speed with which the ram is descending the slope. The tracks leading forwards from the ram indicate the path taken by the ewe, and the ram's eyes are locked onto her. Lovely! :toast:

Great action n wonderful frame ! Love the flying snow, the placement of Ram and it's shadow too.Not sure if lower POV was possible here, it could have further enhanced the effect.

It is a good photo viewed at this size. Viewed large it is an absolute stunner. I love the eyes, the snow spray and the sheer power of the image. Great stuff.

The quality of the snow being kicked up really makes this! I like it. :toast: If you are printing this large, I would consider a desaturation of that one area of reflected color in the older tracks on the left side of the frame.

Powerful stuff Gary! My only suggestion is to tone down the whites in front of the ram just a bit (not the spray around him though). :toast:

My favorite part is that snow flying in front of the feet. Not what I'd call easy light but you handled it well. An eye catching image that hold attention.
