My first favorite image of Madame Pele flowing from Pu'u O'u down to the Kalapana coastline ocean entry point on January 10, 2009. Canon 5D and 100-400L, ISO 100, AP 18, SH 1/2.5. The image is a bit soft because of the thermal heat distortion.

Welcome Tom! The lines in the lava are absolutely incredible. I love the red glow to the steam as well. Man I miss photographing the lava!

Aloha Justin. Still trying to figure out how to get going here on NPN. Im sure I will be getting it soon. Lava tubes collapsed and lava is taking on a new direction up on the Pali (hill side). So no Entry point. One home got destroyed about two weeks ago. A huge bench did collapsed and luckily we were not there. Always thankful to be out safe everytime we go. Anyhow. Take care.

Killer shot, Tom, and definitely something most of us don't see every day! I really like the different bands of color in the lava and the red/orange steam rising from the ocean . . . otherworldly stuff. Look forward to seeing more of your work.

Very cool. Looks just like a flame. One of the more interesting/original lava shots I've seen.

Aloha Tom!

I'm glad to see you posting here on NP. I think your work will be very well received here. These folks often have eyes like an eagle and it is a great place to learn and be inspired.

Killer shot! :toast:

Nice! I like how you left the edges dark leaving some mystery there, and putting all the attention on the lava. I imagine the sense of danger really makes the experience special as well.

Wow, that is something. Even with 400 mm I'll bet you could feel the heat here.

Slight softness aside (understandable in the circumstances) this is a dramatic and arresting image. Well done!

Tom,

Welcome to NPN and the ES&S Gallery! I'm sure you've heard, but Justin already gave you an introduction earlier with one of this posts! Your reputation has preceded you! And we're certainly glad you decided to join us.

What an incredible lava flow image. The form, the light and the steam produced is awesome. Outstanding image and I can see why this is a favorite.

Glad to have you here. Looking forward to more images and your participation in the galleries and forums!
