Canyon Shelter

A quiet moment in the Narrows. Windless conditions, and the trees seemed to glow in the diffused backlighting.

2 vertical images were stitched to keep the left portion of the river. I needed something dark to provide a boarder over there, and the darker non rapid water combined with the canyon wall seemed to work. The image does seem a little weighted to the right, but I liked the sliver of bright canyon in the background that would have been minimized with other comps.

Single exposure for each, ISO 640, f16, 1/4 sec.
I was pleasantly surprised how little noise in the exposure.

Love the painterly-looking water flow and the bright green trees against the canyon walls. Really well done, Harry.

Beautiful light, composition, and subtle processing. I might burn in the triangle of bright canyon wall a bit, but this is very nice just the way it is.

A very dynamic composition. Feels like my eye is guided and swept through the frame, following the interesting curves in the water and rock. Beautifully done!

I like the composition and I feel like the trees balance the scene very nicely. You have done a good job at capturing the grandness (real word?) of this place!

Something a bit different from the usual Narrows shot. I like it!

This really takes me there. I can hear the water and feel the cool breezes. Nice.

Thanks all - I agree , the back wall seems a bit washed out.

This is probably my favorite stretch within the Narrows to photograph during autumn. From the vantage point you chose for this composition, the more prominent foreground works very well. However, the diminished separation between the walls of the Narrows in the background doesn't appeal to me as much as is possible from a vantage point a little to the left. The light doesn't appear to have been all that it can be as well. Still, this is a fine take on a scene that IMO is somewhat difficult to photograph.

Harry,

This is gorgeous. Fabulous job with the stitch, working the water with both processing and exposure. You've got a very well balanced composition too. Excellent work on this one.

I like this. There's a gnarliness to all the elements, and it kind of ties everything together in the frame.

I love the way my eye travels through this sweeping back and forth from side to side. I agree about the back wall, but like this image!
