Kolob Meadow
by Jim Greenwood
Not particularly extraordinary; just reminiscent of a pleasant, peaceful, solitary autumn afternoon in the Kolob Canyons. This is one of the larger open grassy meadows that I can recall happening upon anywhere in Zion to this point. With this composition I wanted to portray a sense of the location by including as much of the open meadow in the foreground as I could, while also including enough of the massive dramatic vertical cliff wall in the background to effectively complement the serene autumn scene. This resulted in somewhat of a 50/50 comp, but I think that the off-center stand of trees reduces this impact.

Initially I thought this was too close to 50/50 and was going to suggest cropping some of the grasses. but I understand now your intent to include as much of the meadow as you could. And I think you've succeeded very nicely in your attempt to portray that sense of location. I also think it's especially important to have the little bit of openness up front that includes the leaves and hint of green underneath.
This is quite wonderful.
