Canon 1D Mark 3 With EF 300mm f 2.8
1/320 sec, F 9.0, ISO 800
Just contrast adjustment and sharpened. This is basically what came out of my camera and it said Fox!

Thanks for looking.

Mike

Generally speaking I like this close-up portrait Michael. Great detail in the fox's face and the exposure looks good. It might just be a personal preference thing but to me the photo is just begging to be rotated about 3 degrees right.

Nicely detailed and colored. I like the inquisitive look.

I don't mind the tilted head at all. And obviously if this is uncropped a rotation won't work anyway. However, it would benefit from a crop on the top. More room on the left would help too, but again that may not be possible if this is full frame.

I think the eyes are fantastic, and the color and DoF are perfect.

Great eye contact and detail in the fox. Could be rotated just a little.

Depth of field, nose to ears is great. It brings out a wonderful level of detail and I find myself studying the reflections in his eyes to see if you were using a blind! I am thinking you were set up close with the 300, and had no room to back off or add some space. It feels a little like you are even looking down slightly, as if you were expecting your subject at a greater distance. If so, rotation might not be level with the world as shot, but I don't think it is a factor in this kind of close-up portrait. In fact, the only minor nit to my eye is the diagonal line in the lower left which hints at a man made element, roadside or trail or whatever. All in all, very well done.

I really like the look on the fox's face and the richness of the color.

Beautiful face indeed. I might lower the saturation on the orange fur a little - surprised no adjustments were done on sat, unless you shoot jpeg with vivid setting?

I like this a lot Mike. I actually like it as is and wouldn't rotate it. I feel like having this slight tilt is what makes it more interesting. It makes me feel the fox is being inquisitive...sort of like when a dog is confused and tilts his head as if to try and understand more.

My only nit...it seems like this has just a bit of a yellow color cast. However, not all foxes ahve the same color of coat and it might just be this particular fox coat is more on the yellow/orange side. Could also be my work monitor, but the other three fox shots look fine.

Anyhow, this is a very nice job!
