I took this shot with manual fucus as I could not AF fast enough on these with my camera. They don't stay at the same spot very long. Taken in Vasona park in Los Gatos, California. We now have a hudge amount of dragonflies. I have seen at least 4 species.

This was taken with a Canon 300d
Canon 80-200 F2.8 L
Tamron 2x standard teleconverter.

Model Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL
Flash Used Yes
Focal Length 400mm
Exposure Time 1/1000 sec
Aperture f/8
ISO Equivalent 200
Exposure Bias -2/3

thanks every one for the comments

To answer a few questions, I did not really anticipate where it would be but I was lucky enough to have one coming my way. It hovered for few seconds, maybe 3 or 4 so that gave me just about enough time to spot it, zoom on it and manualy focus. I only had time to shoot this one frame before it was gone.

I have noticed that they slow down in pace near sunset, so that might help some people if you know this and go a bit later in the afternoon. Maybe it is because the temperature cool down, not sure.

the blue background is the little lake behind. The photo is cropped about 15% maybe.
