Kupapa‘u

Lava cascades over a 30 foot cliff at Kupapa‘u in Kalapana, island of Hawaii. As it enters the sea, the lava shatters into millions of shards, creating a brand new black sand beach. The entire area was covered with lava a few weeks later.

C&C welcome. Aloha!!

AWESOME!!! That must be one of the coolest natural spectacles on the planet. Beautiful image, especially with the nice wave movement at the base of the red lava. :toast:

Very nice! Good exposure, nice angular comp, and the bit of color in the clouds is just icing on the cake!

Not as wild and crazy as your last, but more like I would expect to see with this kind of situation. A very nice image in it's own right. I'd love to have this or something similar in my portfolio!

Welcome to NPN Bruce! This is truly neat. I would love to see something like this in person - I can't even imagine how neat it must be.

Your choice of shutter speeds here rendered the water perfect IMO Bruce. I like this one a lot and love the processing.

I like the longish exposure and the cascading lava flow... good composition as well.

Great scene! I'm not a huge fan of f22, my images always seem a bit soft.

It must be an 'explosive' reaction when fire and water met. Awesome natural spectacle. Well frozen Bruce! Would love to go to Hawaii too witness the volcanos some day! :jump:

This is really sweet. I love the combo of the red/black against the greens/blues. This must be spectacular and special to witness in person! :toast:

Bruce,

That's a very nice choice on the length of time for the exposure, and very nice movement in the water as well.

Lava is always fun and impressive, but I particularly like the little blue tint on the tongue about halfway up the right side.

I like the contrast of fire/water and the color range of darks/lights. Also the softening of the water's flow is exceptional. Awesome image! :toast:

Thanks all, for the very kind words! Yes, as Chris mentioned, not as wild and crazy as my first pic, but still awesome to witness and get the blood flowin'. Standing on the ocean side of that crack was a little unsettling, as the cliffs are very unstable. Also had to keep an eye on that surface flow, as not to get surrounded.
