Galveston, TX 11/10.

D3 ISO 320. 300/2.8 with 2x tc. f6.3 1/1250 -0.3ev. Morning light. Handheld at the water's edge. A few bright spots were darkened.

I wish I had chosen 1 stop smaller aperture as the tail and left leg are not quite as sharp as I would have liked.

Nice to get so close to this very small bird. This is overall a nice image. I'd go with as little less exposure in raw conversion to try to keep the cheek and collar from blowing out.

I don't think stopping down another stop would have made a significant difference in DOF here. When you are working at this much magnification (you must have been quite close) DOF is very shallow.

Nice lighting and sharpness and eye contact with this little bird. The DOF is fine with me. The front leg and most of the body are in focus. A very nice shot, Angela!

Loads of detail and you made this tiny bird look big. Great clarity and sharpness

Great eye contact and nice detail here Angela. I think the extra stop would have gotten the back foot and tail in focus but I think the dof you ended up using works fine here. :toast:

I love the pose and the blue of the water. Excellent detail in all but the brightest white. I am impressed with how close you must have gotten.

I agree with Rich D's assessment Angela. Really like this and with it darked just a bit it will be stellar.

Some major pop-off-the page at work here, Angela. I agree that the dof is fine. In fact it is likely what's making this so dimensional.

An excellent image as posted Angela. DOF is fine IMO. Great eye contact too. The only nit I can see is that some of the whites seem slightly bright.

OK. A little of the collar was above the 255 threshold. I took a few pixels from an area that was just below the threshold and cloned them over the hot area at 45% opacity. Still just a couple of pixels that are above 255, but hopefully these are not really noticeable.

Angela,

I like the pose of the semipalmated plover, the wonderful details, view of the eye, sharpness and the comp you used.

I prefer the repost in terms of brightness but I think it could still go a touch darker. It might be bestter to tone them down in acr. It is a small and easily correctable issue.

I love these little peeps.
