Bald Eagle

Here's an image from this summer at Hood Canal, Washington. At this particular spot eagles fly in from feeding on spawning sculpin at low tide to perch in some tall Douglas Fir trees. This allows for some nice close up flight shots. This particular shot was taken in horizontal format but I clipped the wingtip on the bottom so I added some canvas there and cloned in the wingtip. I didn't add or crop any room on top. It's about 65% of the original image before adding the canvas.

Great shot. I like the fully fanned tail. The full diagonal does really well here. Top of the head may be a little hot. Really good job on the reconstruction. I can't see the work at all. I'll have to come back and do the summer at hood canal thing.

I love the way you've place that open winged eagle from corner to corner. Delightful. Love the fanned tail too.

Excellent exposure, DOF, and details Nate, great job on the PP work.
Like your comp, nice POV from the front..
I've been known to add the occasional wing-tip myself..Wish they would cooperate better

The composition you've chosen suits the image very well. Can't see the rework and the detail is superb throughout. These are not native to the Uk but I did attend a workshop a few years back to watch a captive one fly but after one circuit of the field he flew into the distance and that was the last we saw of it that day. I really love to watch eagles it's a pity I would have to travel to Scotland to see them. Graham

I agree Nate - great comp and there's just enough detail in the darks to make this work well. Really like the spread tail and this angle with the head set off by the darks of the eagle really makes the head stand out. I cannot detect your repair job. If this were mine I'd work on reducing the narrow halo.

I would not have known if you wouldn't have explained your fix. Great job, it looks like a banking shot to me and the wingtip is totally natural. Merry Christmas. I hope your little one is sleeping well. Mine finally is.
