Great image, Randy. Love the color-I have never seen them like this-and great detail. Shame about that middle reed running though, but a great image none the less.

Charlie, I believe this to be breeding plumage and Angela, I agree about the horizontal reed but I couldn't move and he refused - what are you going to do.

A great species to get so open like this... a real shame about that one piece of vegetation in front!

I had the same question as Charlie. Thanks for the information, Randy. The colors are really striking.

That's impressive. Love the colors and the eye and the bill. You'd think he could have moved up that reed a bit to give a nice clean view.

Randy, nice catch of this shy and elusive bird ! Good pose and nice environment. The horizontal reed detracts, but not much choice!
The reds seem over-saturated - even in full breeding colors, the base of the bill is not this bright a red, in my experience.
Cheers -
Sandy .

Great pose, perch and setting Randy. I agree that the OOF foreground reed is unfortunate.

Randy,
I love the great pose of this least bittern, it is a species I found difficult to get close to and out in the open while I lived in Florida. I agree that it is unfortunate about the reed cutting across the front of the bird.

Randy,
I love these species and I had fun to watch some of these guys last summer. Great pose and expression so well captured. Excellent detail.
Merry Christmas!
