Ring-tailed lemur

I have already made my last posting before Christmas on UKNP, and this is my last in the Fauna Gallery. I would therefore like to take the opportunity to wish you all a happy Christmas, and to thank you for making me feel so welcome in this gallery, and for your constructive comments on my pictures.

This time I am posting a ring-tailed lemur, probably the most familiar icon of Madagascar wildlife, photographed at the Anja Community Reserve. I had this pose, with the curve in the tail, just long enough to fire off one shot. Despite the fussy background, I am pleased with the shot, but feel free to comment on anything you like (as always).

Thanks for looking

David

David, your perfect DOF causes the lemur, from head to end of tail, to stand out wonderfully from the background. Great shot. :toast:

Not sure the reasons why you are leaving David, but this series I have enjoyed the most.

All the best for the future.

kind regards

Steve,

I am not leaving anything, least of all this forum. All I meant to imply was that I won't have time to share anything else before Christmas is over!

Love that tail and those red eyes. I can't imagine a better pose from this guy. You've placed him well in the frame. An excellent image IMO.

Hi David,

Very nice shot - the pose is great and I really like the natural "perch" the lemur is on. I concur with your comments about the background, but I can't think of anything you could have done (with the equipment you had) to improve that situation (where's that 105mm f2.8 VR lens when you need it?). One minor suggestion: if the image were mine I'd probably selective lighten the shadow that runs through the middle of the lemur's body (not a lot, just enough to de-emphasize it a little more). Even tho' the shadow I'm referring to is continuous with the darker one on the log below, I don't think you need to touch the shadow on the log - it could be easily seen as a shadow thrown by the lemur itself (so lightening the shadow on the lemur shouldn't interfere with the lighting balance of the overall scene).

Cheers...thanks for sharing this....

Brad

As facially photogenic as this delightful species is, their tails have to be one of the most attractive in the primate world, and as you know exceptionally difficult to photograph while concentrating on a good head shot too. I think this is absolutely terrific David, one I'd be proud to have in my collection, very nicely done!

I know this was posted a while ago and perhaps you have no other images left of Lemurs from your Madagascar trip, but if you do PLEASE post up some more, as I just can't seem to get enough of them :^)
