Silver Cliff Christmas

Part of a tribute to Ansel Adams that i've had in mind for about a year now. I shot this scene this morning shortly after sunrise in the Wet Mountain Valley adjacent to a cemetary. A light snowfall overnight resulted in a layer of fog and some truly outstanding conditions!
For one of the tribute shots of the cemetary, see the M&N gallery post:

This is really nice, Stan. The mountains coming out of the fog against the blue sky with the snow on them really looks nice. Foreground with that nice light and fresh snow makes this whole scene wonderful. The cemetary shot is wonderful also. Very nice work! Merry Christmas to you Stan.
We had fresh snow again today and I just finished doing a little plowing. Stopped in the studio for a bit, having a beer and checked NPN. Now I'm heading for the house to sit by the fire and wait for Santa. My studio is right next to my house. Makes it nice! Nick

Looks so clean and fresh, cold too! I like it, it's kind of different. I thought you guys were getting slammed with a storm. Or did that already happen, yet to come?

Merry Christmas!

Thanks Nick & Chris, Merry Christmas to you too! Chris, weve had very little snow in Eastern Colorado this ridiculously warm and dry Winter. You're thinking of Western Colorado, which has been getting slammed (but only the high elevations). When i shot this cemetary a couple Winter ago, there was about 2-3 feet of snow here.

I can definitely see the AA influence here and the M&N image too. I think in B&W the clouds would add a lot, but in color, the amount of blue sky seems a bit excessive. That's just an opinion, though. Really hard to tell w/o playing with this in PS.

Nice, Mr.
I like this bright, happy light. Indeed, wonderful conditions.
The layers and clean palette make this one shine.

Great conditions and beautiful detail here, Stan. To my eye the composition is a bit static and I like it better cropped to a square.

Merry Christmas from Austria,
I appreciate expressive details in the foreground that make us feel participating in the scene!

Hey Stan,

Hope you had a great Christmas!

While I like the crispness and can feel that crispness in the air, I would echo Guy in that it's a bit static for me. I like the detail upfront, but it quickly gets lost in the mid ground and doesn't seem to tie in with the mountains. I might be inclined to actually crop most of the sky - at least the bigger clouds up top. I think this would provide a better near/far comp with the foreground detail, mountains and layer of fog. Just my take on it.

Stan - I'm seeing a bit of cyan in the clouds as well as the upper half in general as already mentioned. Very expansive feel to this shot. In your latest BW post, I thought the snow was foliage - whoops, my bad
