The Nuns

Took this photo on Monday while wandering around the Sedona bush looking for nice compositions for sunset. The light was starting to get decent, and I really like the texture in the clouds, so I took this handheld. The thick brush was not conductive to wide-angle shots, thus my choice in composition. I spent a long time processing this, mainly trying some new techniques from a Photoshop book I got for Christmas, but Tony Kuyper's luminosity masks turned out to be the answer. I hope I nailed the processing because I took way too long to process a shot that is more of a stock photo. Comments/critiques appreciated!

Guess people are out celebrating early. Of the eight most recently-posted pictures in the forum, seven have zero comments and one has one comment. Guess the posters aren't even commenting. I like this, Jake. The bottom-to-top layers look nice and the clouds are awesome. Sky maybe looks a little over-polarized, but it sure makes for a nice contrast with the cloud edges.

The processing looks good, I might try to pull a little more detail out of the lower right hand corner of the image, but given the lighting, it looks accurate. The sky in the larger image appears to be a little noisy. Given that you shot this at ISO 100, you shouldn't have any issue with noise.

I second Tony's comment about over polarization, but it is easily done shooting wide angle.

Overall, I do like the image and composition, the processing does look great, just fix the noise in the sky and it'll be very nice!

Very nice shot Jake. My only nit would be the very dark lower right corner. I would see if you can brighten that up just a tad to blend in more with the rest of the photo.

I like the composition. But the sky looks too bluish and may be too noisy(on top part) to me. I guess the noise is due to over processing.

Santosh

I like the quality of light on the rocks and agree with the previous comments regarding noise/polarization. Sounds like you had a nice Christmas!
