Pictured Rocks

Over millions of years drops of water running down the cliffs along the Lake Superior shore have left mineral deposits that resemble paintings. This was my first time out on the cliffs along the Pictured Rocks Lakeshore and these bluffs are amazing. I had to bump up the ISO and shutter speed as this was taken from a moving boat and it was a very overcast evening.

F4, 1/80 sec. ISO 800, Nikon D700, 70-200mm at 70 mm.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL NPN PHOTOGRAPHERS. BEST WISHES FOR MANY GREAT PHOTOS IN 2011. :toast:

Wow, the textures in the rock look ghostly superimposed on the coloured patterns. A great find.

Happy NY!

Those are some amazing colors, Tom. I haven't done that boat trip yet, but seeing this makes me want to. Happy New Year to you too! Hope to meet up again in 2011.

Remarkable colors and textures. Looks like quite a unique place. Might try to sharpen it up some if possible.

Awesome. Love the colors and textures. Reminds me of a pair of slacks I used to wear to away games in 1974.

Wow, fantastic mineral staining and textures. I would darken the top a bit, especially above the main rock fracture to the left. Nice work!
